Can George Maluleka be trusted?

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka has signed a pre-contract at Mamelodi Sundowns. He will join Masandawana on the 1st of July 2020 after spending the last six years at Amakhosi.

During his stay at Naturena, Maluleka was crowned league champion in the 2014/15 campaign and also won the MTN8 in the same season.

At the time of writing, the three-time Absa Premiership champion had played 168 matches for his current club, scoring 11 goals and 23 assists. His move to Mamelodi Sundowns has left a lot of fans with undivided opinions with some saying he should be benched for the remainder of the season and some say he should play and go about his business in a professional manner.

This whole thing came at a very wrong time for Kaizer Chiefs because Willard Katsande is injured for a month and already the Glamour boys have struggled without him, so benching Maluleka might make things even worse for Ernst Middendorp.

George has been an important player in Middendorp’s team this season, playing 19 of the 22 league games and has recorded four assists. So, losing him at this time of the season will be a very big problem for the German tactician.

Middendorp, however, has himself to blame after all. Yes, the team has done well in terms of getting results, but we all knew he’s not covering himself with glory during the campaign when he played the same players week in, week out.

Players like Siphelele Ntshangase could easily be options but it’s now difficult bringing such ‘rusty’ players at this time of the season. Whether Middendorp continues to play the 31-year-old or not, I think Sundowns have done an incredible job on destabilizing the Chiefs champ and now everything is in Masandawana’s hands.
