Cape Town City Scoop Top Defender

Week 15 Preview

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Kwanda Mngonyama has been given the chance to revive his career at Cape Town City.

Mngonyama spent three seasons on loan at Maritzburg United but was recalled to Sundowns ahead of the current season.

But the 24-year-old former junior international centre-back found himself left on the sidelines at the Brazilians and has not played at all this season.

The Cape side confirmed his arrival on Friday morning.

“City is delighted to announce the acquisition of Kwanda Mngonyama from Mamelodi Sundowns for an undisclosed fee,” read a tweet.

Head coach Benni McCarthy is delighted with the business and feels his club is getting one of the most promising young defenders in the league.

“When I heard there was a chance for City to land Kwanda I was instantly excited,” McCarthy said.
“Mngonyama is a soldier and probably one of the most promising defensive talents to come out of SA in a long time.
“Seeing where the club is going, building for the future, this was a key acquisition for us. I can’t wait to start working with the young man and get him to where he should be.”
