The hosts hit the front in the early stages through Abel Mabaso from Mark Mayambela’s superb assist. Chiefs responded with Hendrick Ekstein hitting the post.

After half-time, Joseph Molangoane went close but it wasn’t to be as the Chilli Boys collected the three points at home.

Match Report

Chippa came out of the blocks quickly and took the lead in the fifth minute. Superb work inside the box from Mayambela saw him squared the ball to Mabaso, who had the easiest of finishes from close range beyond a stranded Itumeleng Khune.

Amakhosi nearly went 2-0 down as Zitha Macheke saw his strike turned down by a dubious offside flag. The Glamour Boys were on the back foot in the opening 45 minutes and Khune produced a fine save to deny Moeketsi Sekola from Kurt Lentjies’ fine cross.

However, Chiefs showed resolve as Hendrick Ekstein burst forward, fended off defender James Okwuosa and fired a strike off the near post with Daniel Akpeyi seemingly beaten in goal.

Just before the break, Paseka Mako slotted home yet was once more denied by a contentious offside decision.

After the interval, the visitors pressed for the equaliser with Molangoane going close from Gustavo Paez’s cross before George Maluleka saw his 71st minute free-kick blocked by the excellent Okwuosa.

Chippa nearly extended their lead when substitute Katlego Mashego saw his goal-bound strike blocked by Teenage Hadebe.

Akpeyi produced a superb save to deny Paez’s header soon after, however, Teboho Moloi’s side showed enough character to hang on to the win on home soil.
