We look a the match stats, goal scorers, and run of play:
94 seconds is how long it took Lacazette to make his English Premier League debut, with a brilliant glancing header, using the pace of the ball to beat Schmeichel in the far corner.
It only took 5 minutes for Okazaki to equalize through a header when a short corner caught Arsenal’s defence napping and Cech off his line.
Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes into the lead for the first time in the match when a gem of a ball from Albrighton found the reliable right foot of Jamie Vardy for a simple tap in. Welback equalized at the stroke of half time when Arsenal stole the ball in the Foxes half.
2 – 2 at Half time.
A very controlled second half resumed with both teams making their intentions very clear.
Peter Cech snuffs out an attack, as he comes way out of his line to stop a possible Vardy goal from a long ball pass from deep in the Foxes half.
Leicester wins a corner and Vardy does well to beat his marker and scores through a neat header into the bottom corner, Arsenal defence looking questionable at set pieces.
3 -2 after 57 minutes played and the momentum keeps swinging form team to team.
Schmeichel was called into action when he stopped Bellerin’s shot after a well-worked move by the Arsenal midfield between Welback and Elneny.
Wenger makes a change as Elneny comes off and Ramsey on – Holding off, Giroud on. Ramsey’s first touch almost won him a goal, but his header goes wide. Leicester’s goal scorer, Okazaki comes off, Amartey on. The subs keep rolling in as Walcott on for Welbeck with the last twenty minutes to play.
Super Subs to the Rescue:
After countless phases of relentless pressure, Xhaka chips the ball to Ramsey who scores past Schmeichel, 3 – 3 with 7 minutes to play. And then just moments later the unthinkable happened as Giroud takes the Gunners back into the lead after a great header that hits the cross bar dropping down centimetres over the line. 4 – 3 with 85 min played.
Arsenal hold on and stage a remarkable comeback to win their season opener after relinquishing their 1 – 0 lead at the stroke of the first five minutes of the match.
Final Score: Arsenal 4 – 3 Leicester City
