There seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for football lovers. Many leagues across Europe and Africa had confirmed they will not be continuing with the current season. Some declared the season null and void while others were decided on points per game.

In other countries, the supporters of the beautiful game were left clueless as to what will happen to their beloved teams. The guessing game started and calculators were taken out. Fans across the globe shared their different opinions as to what would be the best way forward and of course most opinions were biased with each fan suggesting something that will favour their own clubs.

According to various reports in Europe, the German government has given the go-ahead and approved the resumption – behind closed doors – of the two main leagues to towards the end of May 2020.

This exciting news brought a lot of hope for other countries and should this system prove to be a success, a lot of countries will follow suit.

There were strong reports at the beginning of the month about the return of the Bundesliga after the German government agreed for the league to resume this month despite ongoing uncertainty over the Coronavirus pandemic. With many speculating the 15th of May being the return date.

However, it has now been reported that Germany’s chancellor, Angela Merkel, had initially insisted that there must be a two-week quarantine for all of the teams before action can resume, meaning a date of May 22 looks likely.

Matches would take place under strict conditions – and with no fans in stadiums. This makes the Bundesliga the first elite league to resume to action after stoppage which has seen almost all football put on hold around the world since mid-March.
