The 24-year-old has been on Liverpool’s radar since his move from AS Monaco to Real Madrid for 80 million euros in the summer of 2022, which Liverpool missed out on despite their interest.

A report from Football Insider has highlighted that both Liverpool and Manchester City are keen on Tchouameni. With Rodri sidelined due to injury, Manchester City has funds ready for Pep Guardiola to bolster his midfield.

Guardiola, who has managed at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, sees Tchouameni as a prime target.

Despite the allure of regular starts at either club, a January transfer seems unlikely. Real Madrid are well aware of the interest from both English clubs but have no intentions of letting Tchouameni go mid-season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team has been hit hard by injuries, particularly in defence. Tchouameni has played out of position as a centre-back in 15 of his 23 appearances this season.

James Pearce, speaking on The Athletic’s Walk On podcast, tempered the speculation. “No, all quiet at the moment. No, no,” he said. “There’s been a lot of talk about Tchouameni, hasn’t there, at Real Madrid? Talk about them potentially looking to move him on, and I think mainly because obviously we know Liverpool was so keen a couple of years ago when he went from Monaco to Real Madrid, that those links have surfaced. I’ve been told at the minute there’s nothing concrete in that.”

As Real Madrid focus on defending their La Liga and Champions League titles from the 2023-24 season, they are also eyeing reinforcements in other positions. The search for a new left-back has led them to consider options like Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who, however, seems poised to extend his contract with the German club.

Alternatively, Madrid have their sights set on Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes, although Manchester United and Manchester City also show interest.

In other transfer news, Madrid have expressed interest in Tottenham Hotspur’s young defender Archie Gray. Reports suggest they were ready to offer around 50 million euros for him in January, but Tottenham are unlikely to let him go for that amount, having just signed him from Leeds United for 40 million pounds in the summer of 2024.

Lastly, Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen has caught Madrid’s eye with his performances. However, any move for him would require Madrid to outbid Manchester City, with Guardiola also expressing interest in the promising defender.

This January transfer window promises to be an intriguing battle for talents like Tchouameni, whose future at Real Madrid could hinge on the club’s defensive injury crisis and their aspirations for more silverware.
