Kaizer Chiefs fans have turned to Twitter to express their disapproval over a string of poor performances from their beloved club.

There were some divided opinions in a heated Twitter Space hosted by Thando (@Ta_Fitty) on Wednesday night after the disappointing draw against AmaZulu. The Space was initially scheduled for one hour (19:30 – 20:30) but it ended up finishing at 22:00 – that alone tells you how serious the supporters’ meeting was.

Against Usuthu, Chiefs produced an abject display and were lucky to avoid the kind of defeat like the 4-1 loss suffered against new boys Royal AM earlier this season. The gaffer himself admitted that the team was shocking “if I was Benni [McCarthy] I would’ve been mental that they [AmaZulu] didn’t put us [Kaizer Chiefs] to the sword with three or four goals because I thought we were that bad’’, said the British coach in his post-match interview with SuperSport TV.

A small group were of the opinion that all is not lost, however, stating the fact that from the last six games, the Naturena outfit have picked up 13/18 points, conceded four goals and scored 10.

However, the most optimistic of Chiefs fans were quick to rubbish those facts and stated clearly that they will not be fooled by recent results. The common word was favouritism as many questioned the overused defensive pairing of Eric Mathoho and Daniel Cardoso. What also frustrated the Gold and Black faithful is deploying Ramahlwe Mphahlele at left-back while there were left-footed defenders like Happy Mashiane and Thabani Dube, who can and have played in the position before.

Many also complained about the fact that there is a fully fit Lazarous Kambole on the bench but the coach would rather opt for players who are returning from ‘hospital’ such as Leonardo Castro and Lebogang Manyama. Despite Kambole scoring two goals in three seasons in Chiefs colours, many believe the Zambian International can leverage off Keagan Dolly’s passes and Khama Billiat’s pace. They believe a fit Kambole is more suitable upfront than having Benard Parker there.

The fans also complained of the ever-predictable substitution of Anthony Akumu Agay. Stating that even when the team is in search of a goal, Akumu is always the first sub while creative players like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Sabelo Hadebe and Kearyn Baccus continue to eat ice on the bench.
