Soccer player celebrates

Free State Stars are reportedly targeting former Kaizer Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp to take over from Luc Eymael who resigned this week.

Eymael stepped down following an uncertain run of form and has since been linked with a move to Black Leopards as well as unnamed teams in Durban and Egypt.

According to sources at Ea Lla Koto, the club’s management have spoken to Middendorp regarding the vacant role and a deal could be concluded before this weekend.

A source told Kickoff: “The club received a number of applications, both locally and overseas. The club has targeted Ernst Middendorp.”

The German had a four-month stint at Stars in 2014 where he recorded four wins, three draws and one loss in the Premiership.

The former Chiefs, Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United and Maritzburg United mentor is currently the technical director at Bangkok City in Thailand.

The 60-year-old holds a UEFA Pro License which is the highest qualification available in Europe. In addition to his experience in the PSL, he has managed clubs across Africa and in Europe.
