Following over fifty English Premier League (EPL) fixtures in the calendar month of December 2021, the year draws to a close. This past week saw nothing but goals galore, penalties awarded and tons of festive cheer. There are nine fixtures set to take place this weekend (following the postponement of Leceister v Norwich) as we kick-off 2022.

Jorginho Firing

Jorginho has scored 4 goals in his previous 5 league appearances – all coming from the penalty spot. The Chelsea ace has been a constant figure for Tuchel’s men this campaign, appearing in seventeen of possible twenty league fixtures.

Chelsea are eight points off the pace after they were held to a draw last time out – their fourth one in their previous eight league outings. Across those eight fixtures, the Blues have kept just a single clean sheet which is will bug the German mentor considering they had kept four in their opening five league fixtures.

Moreover, the team has become heavily reliant on individual brilliance rather than a collective effort that was observed earlier on in the season. In the previous eight league fixtures, Chelsea have scored thirteen goals with eleven of them coming from just three players – Jorginho tucked away five (all from the spot), Mason Mount netted four of those (assisting a further three) and Romelu Lukaku bagged two (in his previous two appearances).

Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in their opening EPL fixture of 2022. The reverse fixture saw a stalemate at Anfield, but it’s all to play for here!

With all of this in mind, it may be worth having a flutter on Jorginho to score any time at 4/1.

Smith-Rowe to shine against Champions?

Arsenal’s Emile Smith-Rowe has scored 3 goals in his previous 3 league appearances – playing a combined fifty-four minutes across those three fixtures. The youngster is yet another gunner that has come through the ranks and progressed to the first team.

Smith-Rowe is no stranger to the premier league. In the 2020/21 season, he appeared in 20 of Arsenal’s 38 league fixtures, scoring twice and bagging four assists.

In the current season, his eight league goals makes him Arsenal’s current top scorer in the league. Fellow academy graduate, Bukayo Saka, is behind him on the scoring charts – with five to his name during this campaign.

Manager Mikel Arteta has tested positive for Covid-19 and will miss their fixture against Manchester City. He can rest assured knowing that when these two are on the pitch, things happen!

Emile Smith-Rowe as an anytime scorer can be had 26/10!

Hornets misfiring under Ranieri

Watford have lost 8 of their 10 league fixtures played under Ranieri. The Hornets come into this round of fixtures in seventeenth place, just two points above the relegation zone.

They’ve conceded thirty-five goals across their seventeen league appearances (only three top-flight clubs have conceded more) and show no signs of slowing down.

Since Ben Foster’s injury, Daniel Bachmann has assumed the goalkeeping responsibilities but hasn’t kept a clean sheet in his nine league appearances, conceding twenty-two goals during that period.

Watford have lost their previous five league fixtures – so things are getting sticky for the hornets, with the situation made worse their 4-1 thrashing at the hands of West Ham earlier this week.

Tottenham are 6/10 to beat Watford at Vicarage road this weekend.

Forster still waiting for first clean sheet of the season

Fraser Forster awaits his first clean sheet of the 2021/22 season. Southampton are undefeated in their previous two league fixtures – coinciding with Fraser Forster’s return to action.

The first choice shot-stopper made his first home appearance of the 2021/22 EPL last time out against Tottenham Hotspur. Forster made no less than 10 saves across the ninety to secure the point at Saint Mary’s.

Forster will be without the defensive pair of Kyle Walker-Peters and Mohammed Salisu for their upcoming fixture (against Newcastle) as they both serve their one-match bans. The reverse fixture saw a stalemate at St James’ Park, but there’s been a change in the tune!

With the above in mind, you can get Both Teams To Score: Yes at 8/10. For those looking for a bit more value- get on the Matchbet & Both Teams to Score: Southampton and Yes at 51/20.

Another Spurs game, another red card?

Tottenham’s previous 3 league fixtures have seen their opposition finish the game with 10 men. Spurs were held to a draw last time out against Southampton, which infuriated Antonio Conte.

It was their third consecutive league fixture wherein their opposition were reduced to ten men – yet they’ve only taken five points from a possible nine. Tottenham have just six goals to show from their forty-eight shots conjured up across those three league outings, with three of those coming from the boot of Harry Kane.

Conte will need his attackers to be putting those efforts away if they are to mount a top-four challenge.

We’re looking at the “Bookings” markets here. Watford to claim the most match bookings at 7/10 could be the play.
