German Bundesliga: Gameweek 20 Preview

There’s plenty of value on the betting side in this weekend’s Bundesliga action as Bayern Munich aim to distance themselves from second-placed RB Leipzig and stretch their gap to 10 points when the Bavarians make the trip to Berlin on Friday night.

Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to get back to winning ways after being the only UEFA Champions League participant not to claim maximum points last weekend. We’ve got a 21/1 treble that you should be climbing on, let’s get straight into the preview!

Friday 5 February

Hertha Berlin 7/1

Draw 5/1

Bayern Munich 3/10 (21:30)

Hertha Berlin is in serious trouble after suffering four defeats from their last five Bundesliga matches, having scored just twice within that period. Now they’ve recruited experience in the form of World Cup winner Sami Khedira. The Berliners are precariously hovering above the relegation zone and will look to the quality players in their team like Krzysztof Piatek, Matheus Cunha, Jhon Cordoba and Matteo Guendouzi to pull them out of this dreaded rut as well. Bayern Munich should make light work of struggling Hertha as the Bavarians seek their fifth straight win. The champions are a banker at 3/10, but if you’re looking for value, take Over 3.5 Goals to come home flying for the fourth straight meeting between these opponents at 15/20.

Saturday 6 February

Bayer Leverkusen 19/20

Draw 28/10

Stuttgart 49/20 (16:30)

Bayer Leverkusen have let themselves down and surrendered top spot during a horrid spell in their last eight matches. The Werkself went from being unbeaten after 12 games to suffering five defeats from their last eight matches. Stuttgart come off their first home win of the season, beating Mainz 2-0 at the Mercedes Benz Arena. The Reds have been much more proficient on their travels, winning five times from 10 matches and will fancy their chances against an out-of-sorts Leverkusen side. Stuttgart offers great value on the Win/Draw Double Chance at 15/20.

Freiburg 4/1

Draw 33/10

Borussia Dortmund 11/20 (16:30)

Freiburg return to home soil after losing 3-0 away to in-form Wolfsburg at the Volkswagen Arena. The Breisgau Brazilians have played their most productive football on home soil, going unbeaten in six matchups, including four victories and two draws. Borussia Dortmund were in fine form when these opponents met three months ago, running out 4-0 winners as Erling Haaland put Freiburg to the sword. Add Dortmund to all weekend multiples.

Schalke 7/1

Draw 42/10

RB Leipzig 1/3 (16:30)

Bottom of the barrel Schalke are tipped strongly to suffer their 14th defeat from 20 Bundesliga matches. The Royal Blues have lost six of their last seven games at the Veltins Arena with the trend likely to continue until the Gelsenkirchen-based club find themselves in 2. Bundesliga next season. RB Leipzig got back to winning ways by beating Bayer Leverkusen 1-0 following their nightmarish shock defeat to Mainz. Dominik Szoboszlai is yet to feature since signing for Julian Nagelsmann’s Red Bulls and will be raring to get some minutes under his belt before the UEFA Champions League resumes. The visitors have some of the most promising defenders across Europe. Take Away Win to Nil at 5/4.

Mainz 21/10

Draw 47/20

Union Berlin 13/10 (16:30)

Second from bottom Mainz let many punters out of our multiples by winning their last home game against RB Leipzig two weeks ago – their first Bundesliga victory at the Opel Arena in 10 attempts. The Carnival club were thumped 4-0 in the reverse tie when they visited the capital and come off a 2-0 loss to Stuttgart last Friday. Union Berlin come into the clash full of confidence despite their recent poor form, seeing as they made light work of Mainz last time out. My money is firmly on the Iron Ones at healthy odds of 13/10 which is well worth a punt.

Augsburg 31/10

Draw 51/20

Wolfsburg 17/20 (16:30)

Augsburg continue to slip down the Bundesliga standings having lost four times in five league games. The most worrying sign for the hosts is that they’ve been losing to teams in the bottom half of the log, which is inching them closer to a relegation battle with each failed opportunity to put points on the board. Wolfsburg, on the other hand, is on the completely opposite trajectory as the “Die Wolfe” are flying high in third position and enjoying a purple patch of three straight wins without conceding. If you’re feeling brave, the Away Win to Nil is priced at 21/10, although I’ll add the straight win to all weekend multiples.

Monchengladbach 5/10

Draw 34/10

Cologne 5/1 (19:30)

Borussia Monchengladbach have mathematically fared the best from all the German clubs competing in European competitions since the new year, accumulating 20 points from the 24 on offer, which has significantly closed the margin on the teams above the Foals on the log. Cologne won two of the last three games, which were massive six-pointers against fellow relegation scrapping Schalke and Arminia Bielefeld last time out. Marco Rose’s Monchengladbach are tipped confidently to claim their fourth straight win over the Billy Goats.

Sunday 7 February

Hoffenheim 39/20

Draw 11/4

Eintracht Frankfurt 12/10 (16:30)

Hoffenheim will be looking to bounce back after last week’s 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich stopped Sebastian Hoeneb’s side dead in their tracks, following solid displays in back-to-back 3-0 victories over Cologne and Hertha Berlin that allowed them to directly leapfrog their opponents and distance themselves from the drop zone for the time being. Eintracht Frankfurt come into this clash riding an eight-game unbeaten streak with six wins and two draws, scoring 19 goals in the process. Luka Jovic made yet another appearance off the bench for the Eagles and looked very bright. I’m expecting a heavy downpour of goals at the Pre-Zero Arena this Sunday. Put your money on Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals (Yes) at 22/10.

Arminia Bielefeld 39/20

Draw 43/20

Werder Bremen 15/10 (19:00)

Arminia Bielefeld come off heavy losses to Eintracht Frankfurt and Cologne, while the visiting Werder Bremen come into the clash after their best result of the campaign – a 4-1 win in the capital against Hertha Berlin, though it was dampened by a 1-1 draw with Schalke last time out. The Green-Whites edged the previous encounter by a slender 1-0 margin and will be hoping to do a double over the newly-promoted club from Bielefeld to close out the week’s Bundesliga excitement. Werder Bremen are well worth a punt at 15/10.

TREBLE @ 21/1

RB Leipzig Win To Nil 5/4

Wolfsburg Win To Nil 21/10

Hoffenheim vs Eint. Frankfurt – Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals 22/10
