Mamelodi Sundowns have it all to do in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final after conceding at late equaliser at Loftus Versveld on Saturday afternoon.

Lucas Ribeiro Costa opened the scoring for Masandawana in the 54th minute, expertly curling the ball into the far corner. The goal was immediately preceded by a bit of chaos in the box, with the Brazilian having a shot cleared off the line before Aubrey Modiba’s had an effort blocked.

It has to be said that the Brazilians weren’t at their best in the first half, with the Egyptians probably just having the better of the opening exchanges. However, Sundowns came out a different team int eh second half, taking the game to the North Africans.

They were rewarded when Ribeiro Costa opened the scoring, but coach Miguel Cardoso will be kicking himself for trying to protect the lead in the closing stages of the game, inviting Pyramids to push forward – a invite the duly accepted as Al Karti snuck in at the back post to nod his team level in the 94th minute.

Downs now have to score in Egypt if they are to repeat the heroics of that 2016 vintage under Pitso Mosimane. The second leg will be played on Sunday 1 June at 19:00.
