Hugo Broos has called for improved security measures for home games after fans invaded the pitch during Bafana's 5-0 Africa Cup of Nations win over Congo.
Goals from Teboho Mokoena (12′, 27′), Bathusi Aubaas (37′), Lyle Foster (52′) and Iqraam Rayners (78′) secured the one-sided result for Broos’ charges at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The game had to be stopped after the second goal for over ten minutes though as two fans ran onto the field of play.
The actions of the supporters could have stifled Bafana’s free-flow attacking play but a dominant Bafana managed to pick up where they left off after the break.
A win against the Congo in Brazzaville on Tuesday will secure South Africa’s place at the Afcon finals in Morocco next year.
Broos said after the game: “I was very happy to see the crowd when I came in [to the stadium], and I was not happy after 20 minutes because we could have stopped the game, and that was going to be a disaster.
“So, I think in the future, and it’s not up to us as coaches, I have to ask Safa that when they choose the stadium, they must be sure of its security.
“I don’t understand that before the break, for example, there were 10 securities, then after the break, suddenly they were 50. Where were they from the beginning of the game?
“We are playing a very important game and now we should have problems because of kids with their happiness and they run onto the field.
“Nobody did something about this. There was no security running behind those guys, so this is something we need to take into account for the next games.
“I was always asking to have the crowd and it happened, maybe next time it will be better not to have the crowd. If we want the crowd, we have to prepare for that, such things can happen and security has to be there.”
