League A

Portugal 2-0 Czech Republic

Portugal made sure of top spot in Group 2 as they dispatched the Czech Republic 2-0 in Lisbon.

Joao Cancel handed Portugal the lead in the 33rd minute with a fine strike, before Gonçalo Guedes added the second just five minutes later.

“We played a great game,” said Guedes. “They tried to cancel us out and that’s what they did. We wanted more goals but it was an important victory.”

Switzerland 0-1 Spain

Spain picked up their first win of the campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Switzerland in Geneva.

Pablo Sarabia scored the decisive goal in the 13th minute after latching onto a cross from Marcos Llorente.

The win comes after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Portugal and then drew 2-2 draw away at the Czech Republic last weekend.

Spain are second in Group 2, two points behind Portugal while Switzerland are last, four points adrift of the Czech Republic.

“I think the balance of the game was very positive and that allowed us to take charge,” said Spain coach Luis Enrique. “We deserved the victory.”
