Italian Serie A: Gameweek 2 Preview

It was a top start to the 2020/21 Serie A season last weekend with Genoa racing to the summit followed by defending champions Juventus. There are a good few eye-catchers to look forward to as we enter gameweek two, so let’s get down to business.

Saturday 26 September

Torino 36/10
Draw 31/10
Atalanta 13/20
Torino fell to a 1-0 defeat at Fiorentina last weekend and will be looking to come back with a good showing against Atalanta on home soil. However, last season’s third-place finishers will something else in mind come Saturday.

La Dea won this fixture 7-0 last season and I wouldn’t be surprised if they come away with maximum points here. Take Atalanta to bag all three points.

Sampdoria 21/20
Draw 5/2
Benevento 5/2
Sampdoria were humbled 3-0 at Serie A giants Juventus last time out and will need to put that memory behind them. New boys on the block, Benevento, were absolutely brilliant in Serie B last term, finishing 18 points clear of the next best team.

Nonetheless, Sampdoria should be stronger at home and much tighter at the back. With that being said, I’m backing the Totals – Under 2.5 Goals – at 1/1.

Cagliari 7/2
Draw 29/10
Lazio 7/10
Cagliari did well to salvage a 1-1 draw at Sassuolo last weekend and will look to build on that as they play host to Lazio on Saturday. That’s easier said than done when the Eagles are unbeaten in 10 meetings against Cagliari with eight victories.

Lazio won 10 of their 19 away games last season and look good value to get their title-chasing campaign off to a good start. The away win is tipped.

Inter Milan 5/10
Draw 34/10
Fiorentina 5/1
Inter Milan pushed Juventus to the very end last season and will be hoping to go one better this season. They won 11 of their 19 home games last season and should be tough to beat at the San Siro on Saturday.

Fiorentina started their campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 home win against Hellas Verona. However, they tend to struggle on the road and Inter should prove too strong for them. Get on the home win.

Sunday 27 September

Spezia 7/2
Draw 28/10
Sassuolo 15/20
Spezia finished third in Serie B last season and grinded their way through the play-offs to earn a place in Italy’s top division. Sassuolo struggled for consistency last season and were not very strong on the road.

However, both sides will see this as a match-winning game, so I’m expecting plenty of goals. Both Teams to Score – Yes – is tipped at 7/10.

Hellas Verona 17/10
Draw 2/1
Udinese 18/10
Hellas Verona will be fairly happy after holding Roma to a goalless draw at home last weekend. Udinese travelled poorly last season with just six wins from 19 matches and that doesn’t bode very well for their chances here.

Home advantage might just be the difference on Sunday. It won’t be cut and dry and I’m not expecting an exciting content either, but Hellas Verona should do enough to get the win.

Napoli 7/20
Draw 17/4
Genoa 7/1
Napoli made a great start to the 2020-21 season with what looked to be a routine win away to Parma. Genoa were also impressive as they climbed to the summit with a 4-1 thumping of newcomers Crotone.

While I do believe Napoli will get the win here, Genoa are very much likely to put on a good show. Get on the Matchbet & Both Teams to Score market with Napoli and Yes at 33/20.

Crotone 57/10
Draw 37/10
AC Milan 9/20
Crotone will be looking to recover following their 4-1 whipping at Genoa last time out. AC Milan, on the other hand, were in fine form as they seemed to ease to a 2-0 win at the San Siro on Monday night.
There are no two ways about this. The Rossoneri should prevail as winners on Sunday evening and despite their short price, I’m backing them at 9/20.
Roma 5/2
Draw 51/20
Juventus 21/20
Roma and Juventus will lock horns in what is undoubtedly the biggest Serie A clash of the weekend. The hosts stumbled at their first hurdle last weekend as they were held to a dour draw at Hellas Verona.

Juventus, on the other hand, were at their best as they romped to a 3-0 home win over Sampdoria. Despite Roma’s poor efforts last time out, I think they should get on the scoresheet. Both Teams to Score – Yes – is tipped at 6/10.

Monday 28 September

Bologna 1/1
Draw 26/10
Parma 26/10
We round off gameweek two with a Monday night clash between Bologna and Parma. Both sides suffered 2-0 defeats last time out with Bologna going down at AC Milan and Parma being ousted at home against Napoli.

The last three meetings have produced 13 goals at an average of 4.33 per game. Get on the Over 2.5 Goals market at 15/20.

TREBLE TIPPED @ 7/2
Lazio Win 7/10
Inter Milan Win 5/10
Bologna vs Parma Over 2.5 Goals 15/20
