Italian Serie A: Week 38 Preview

Serie-A-Preview

Our Serie A tipster previews gameweek 38 of the 2016/17 Italian top-flight.

The final round of Serie A football is upon us! Juventus were confirmed as champions for a record sixth consecutive campaign running in week 37, while all the European places have been confirmed. Further down the standings, the relegation battle between Crotone and Empoli is set to go down to the wire.

With nothing much left to play for, other than higher positions on the table and that relegation dogfight, a dour weekend of Italian football is on the cards. Nonetheless, yours truly will be with you through each and every game to try and find those much-needed winners. So, for one last time this season, let’s get to it!

Saturday 27 May

Atalanta 3/10 | Draw 47/10 | Chievo 7/1
Atalanta are assured of Europa League football next season but will also have the chance to finish in fourth place on the table. They’re just a point behind Lazio and with a home game to contend against Chievo on Saturday evening, La Dea might just claim fourth spot – well at least for the time being.

Chievo played out to an eight-goal thriller in their final home game against Roma, with the latter claiming a 5-3 victory. The Gialloblu have struggled on the road with 10 losses from 18 games and that doesn’t look like improving here. Get on the Atalanta (-1) Handicap at 7/10.

Bologna 24/10 | Draw 26/10 | Juventus 1/1
Next up, Bologna will look to keep newly crowned champions Juventus at bay. The Old Lady will most likely field a second-string team ahead of their UEFA Champions League final against Real Madrid on Saturday 3 June.

Bologna have been impressive at home of late with back-to-back wins on their ground. Nonetheless, AC Milan smashed them 3-0 at the San Siro Stadium last time out – a result that might just have knocked a bit of confidence out of them. The last five meetings at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara between these sides have seen Under 2.5 Goals and I would suggest following the trend at 5/4.

Sunday 28 May

Cagliari 51/20 | Draw 3/1 | AC Milan 17/20
Cagliari will take on AC Milan in the opening Serie A match on Sunday. The home side have been excellent on their ground in recent weeks with three wins on the spin, scoring eight goals and conceding just twice.

AC Milan come into this encounter off the back of an impressive 3-0 home win over Bologna. However, they are winless in their last five matches on the road and might just struggle here. One thing is certain, both sides will be going all out for the win, so an end-to-end game of football is expected. As such, I will be all over the 1st Half – Both Teams To Score (Yes) at 18/10.

Sampdoria 11/1 | Draw 13/2 | Napoli 1/6
Sampdoria will look to end their season on a positive note following a run of seven matches without a win and they must do so against one of the most in-form and goal-obsessed teams in the league. Napoli have won four matches on the spin, scoring 13 goals and conceding just twice.

Gli Azzurri have the best away record in the league and are currently on a 12-game unbeaten run on the road, including 10 wins. Napoli still have a chance to find second on the log but must claim maximum points and hope Roma drop points as well. The odds on the straight win for the away team is low at 1/6, so get on the 1st Half Totals – Over 1.5 Goals – at 13/20.

Roma 1/16 | Draw 10/1 | Genoa 28/1
Roma will look to cement their position of second place on the standings with a win over Genoa at the Stadio Olimpico. The Giallorossi have won their last three matches, including a 3-1 victory at home over champions Juventus and will be eager to add to that.

Genoa have been terrible on the road with four straight defeats without scoring and conceding nine times. They are guaranteed to finish 16th and I just don’t see them putting up much of a fight. Get on the Home To Win Both Halves market at 6/10.

Crotone 19/20 | Draw 29/10 | Lazio 9/4
Crotone are still gunning for another season in the top flight and to stand a chance of survival, must claim a win against a vulnerable Lazio side. The Rossoblu suffered a 3-0 defeat at Juventus last time out but had won back-to-back matches prior.

Lazio have lost two games on the spin and will look to return to winning ways with Atalanta snapping at their heels in fifth place. Crotone and Lazio will be desperate for the win, which makes for a cracking game. Take Both Halves Over 1.5 Goals at a 47/20.

Torino 6/10 | Draw 7/2 | Sassuolo 36/10
Torino and Sassuolo will go toe-to-toe in what promises to be an entertaining affair. The home team have been poor of late with back-to-back defeats, scoring just once and conceding seven times, while Sassuolo are undefeated in their last seven games.

The Neroverdi are also unbeaten against Torino in the last five meetings, including back-to-back wins away from home, so If you looking for a value bet this is it. For the more cautious I would suggest taking the win/draw Double Chance at 5/4.

Inter Milan 7/20 | Draw 17/4 | Udinese 6/1
Following four defeats in a row, Inter Milan returned to winning ways last time out with a well-deserved 3-1 victory away to Lazio. The Milan-based club have struggled on home soil in recent weeks, with three losses from their last four matches, including consecutive defeats.

Udinese, however, have travelled dismally this season, suffering 10 losses from 18 matches, as well as three on the trot without scoring and conceding eight goals. However, given this is the final round of the season, Udinese should put on a good showing. Get on the Inter Milan win + Both Teams To Score (Yes) at 11/10.

Fiorentina 1/7 | Draw 7/1 | Pescara 13/1
Fiorentina have had an inconsistent season and currently find themselves placed eighth on the table. The Viola were manhandled last time out, going down 4-1 at Napoli. Nonetheless, they have been excellent on their ground with four wins from their last five matches.

Pescara earned a 2-0 home win against Palermo last time out but face a much sterner test here. The Biancazzurri are bottom of the log and have no chance of finishing in a higher position. They have been horrendous on the road and are without a win in their last 17 travels, including 14 defeats. I’m expecting goals galore and the Additional Totals – Over 3.5 Goals – is the one that catches my eye at 11/20.

TREBLE TIPPED 9/1
Cagliari v AC Milan – 1st Half BTTS (Yes) 18/10
Roma Win Both Halves 6/10
Sassuolo Win/Draw Double Chance 5/4
