Jerry Sikhosana Breaks Silence on Early Return from China

Jerry Sikhosana opens up about the treatment he received in China and the signing on fee issue.

Jerry Sikhosana had a short stint with Chinese second tier team Yunnan Hongta FC and has finally revealed why he didn’t stay longer.

Legs of Thunder says he had a good time in the Asian country and the team afforded him the opportunity to take his family with him but could only travel with his wife since his son was too young at the time.

His main issue was the signing on fee which he was supposed to receive from Orlando Pirates.
“I contacted the chairman (Dr Irvin Khoza) and the late Mr [Lawrence] Ngubane and they promised that everything would be sorted through my mum but nothing came to fruition”

A lethal striker in his heyday, Sikhosana says he was one of the most popular players in the league and teams from the elite league.

“When I broke the news about wanting to go back home my team wasn’t happy but they understood my situation. They promised to intervene and ask Pirates to pay me what’s due to me but nothing materialised.”

Sikhosana also rebukes fake stories that were reported about him in the South African media upon his return.

“When I got here people started making up stories, saying I ran away from China because I fought with someone. How can you do that as a foreigner in that country? You can’t. It’s so difficult, it’s hard.
You can’t run away because there’s customs. They know when you’re going in and out of the country. A whole lot of things were said about me”

Legs of Thunder also reflects on some of the weirdest things they ate in China. Listen to the podcast below for more:
