Kaizer Chiefs travel to face Wydad Casablanca for the second time this season. Although the group stage match was played at a neutral venue, Wydad still wiped the floor with the Glamour Boys, beating them 4-0. This is a completely different game and I doubt we will witness a huge scoreline this time around.

Wydad Casablanca

The two-time African Champions topped group C with 13 points winning four ties, drawing once and losing one of their six matches. It is also important to mention that their only defeat came against their semi-final opponents, Kaizer Chiefs.

Faouzi Benzarti’s men went on to play Algerian giants MC Alger in the quarter-finals where they won 2-1 on aggregate, drawing the first leg 1-1 in Algeria and winning 1-0 at home in the return leg.

Ayoub El Kaabi has been one of the best players in the CAF Champions League this season and he will be the main threat. El Kaabi has been involved in six goals, scoring four and assisting two in his eight Champions League appearances.

Kaizer Chiefs

A historical moment for one of the biggest teams in Southern Africa as they partake in the CAF Champions League semi-finals for the first time in their history. Strangely, this feat comes in what has been a disastrous season for the Glamour Boys.

Amakhosi were languishing in the bottom half of the DStv standings for most of the campaign, losing to all the relegation-threatened teams (Chippa United, Black Leopards, Tshakhuma TM and Maritzburg United). That forced the Amakhosi fans to protest and march to the club’s headquarters to express their frustrations and disappointments.

Changes were inevitable at Naturena as Gavin Hunt was the first sacrificial lamb. Whether it was fair or not is a debate for another day. Former Bafana Bafana head coach Molefi Ntseki was appointed as the Head of Development. A few weeks later, another former South African national team coach Stuart Baxter was appointed as head coach.

Hunt’s Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard were called to take charge of the two remaining league matches where they won both games and the club has confirmed the duo will be in the hot seat in this massive encounter.

Chiefs are the biggest outsiders from the four remaining teams. Their victories over Simba SC, Wydad, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns are clear indications that Amakhosi shouldn’t be written off.

Prediction: Wydad Casablanca

I don’t see Kaizer Chiefs keeping a clean sheet in this match and it will be interesting to see if they play Bruce Bvuma who has been fantastic lately or they go the experience route and start Itumeleng Khune. Though I think the hosts will score, I also think the likes of Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro can get that all-important away goal.
