Despite past ambitions – including a dream move for Erling Haaland before eventually landing Robert Lewandowski – Laporta appears to be backing away from the idea of pursuing two major signings this summer, with Nico Williams touted as a potential option.

While Lewandowski has led the line with distinction, his age continues to spark discussion over the need for a long-term successor.

“In life, almost nothing is impossible, but I don’t think it’s what we’re thinking right now. A signing like this… He’s also just renewed with Manchester City,” Laporta commented on Haaland, during an interview with TV3.

“Nico Williams was one of the candidates last season, but we decided on Olmo, and other options are currently being considered.”

Director of Football Deco has hinted at the club’s interest in reinforcing the attack, particularly with the addition of another wide forward.

However, both the forward and goalkeeper positions remain subjects of speculation, with no clear indication of marquee arrivals.

In a surprising move, Barcelona have offered a two-year contract extension to veteran goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who recently came out of retirement.

Szczesny has played a key role in a successful campaign that saw the club win three trophies, and his performances appear to have convinced the board of his continued value.

Laporta has publicly downplayed the prospect of signing a major new goalkeeper, suggesting Szczesny’s experience may be deemed sufficient cover for the near future.
