The 27-year-old has already bagged 14 goals this season to lift the Buccaneers into second position in the Absa Premiership standings, but he credits his team-mates as well as Mokwena.

During Mokwena’s spell as Pirates head coach earlier this season, he put Mhango up front as the main striker, and the player believes that played a big role in his success in front of goal.

“I would say that he [Mokwena] deserves more credit from me actually,” Mhango told the media, as quoted by Goal.

“But like I said it’s not about me, it’s about the team. We understand each other as players. So, even when the coach doesn’t tell us we know what to do.

“I was not surprised when Mokwena first played me as the main striker, as long as the position is attacking. Whether it was on the right-wing or on the left, as long as it was close to the goal.”

Mhango will have a chance to score his 15th goal of the season on Sunday when Pirates travel to Black Leopards.
