Khama Billiat scored the only goal of the game at Orlando Stadium against a Chippa side that ended the tie with nine players after Tercious Malepe (67′) and Elvis Moyo (88′) both saw red.

It was a vital win for Chiefs, with Sundowns also winning their match, leaving the title-chasing teams level on points going into the last game of the season.

After the match, a relieved Middendorp said he was happy with his entire team.

He was reported on KickOff as saying: “Good, I’m very happy with the entire team, technical team and players that we have on what they have gone through and successfully.

“It was a win with a lot of fighting spirit and that’s something we needed today and need on Saturday.”

Chiefs came into this game on the back of a 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits, with Middendorp adding: “It’s about points now. It’s about winning. I’m fully aware about that. It’s what presents Kaizer Chiefs there’s no doubt about it.

“You want it. You want each and everything. It’s a fantastic team on what we have seen here today and that is what it is about at this stage nothing else.”
