Modise: PSL title within Chiefs’ grasp

Teko Modise says the lockdown will only serve to energize Kaizer Chiefs and could spur them on to win the Premier Soccer League title.

Amakhosi entered the stay-at-home period on top of the league standings, four points ahead of reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, although having played a game more.

Assuming the PSL is able to play until its completion, Chiefs have eight more games to play before the end of the current campaign.

While the title race could go all the way to the wire, the former SuperSport, Orlando Pirates, Sundowns and Bafana midfielder feels Amakhosi can get the wins they need.

He told Soccer Laduma: “I think this break is good for them, because they will have fresher legs.

“I think that’s what they needed. It’s a good time for them to reflect and look at what they need to do to maintain their spot at the top, because there’s only a few games left in the season.”

Modise did admit though that it won’t be easy to win the PSL.

“Maybe if they can win four or five games in a row, that would seal the title for them.

“But they have to beat the guys they are competing with, so that’s going to be tough,” he explained.
