The 34-year-old needed emergency treatment on the field at Orlando Stadium, just ahead of the half-time break, before being rushed off to hospital.

Pirates ultimately won the tie 4-0, with goals from Morena Monaheng (21′ OG), Tshegofatso Mabasa (66′, 90+5′) and Monnapule Saleng (72′).

Speaking after the game, Riveiro told SuperSport: “It was a shocking moment for all of us.

“Obviously one of those situations that you sometimes unfortunately you have the opportunity to live yourself close. We used to see it in TV sometimes and today was our chance to have that feeling and I can tell you is not nice.

“But thanks to the doctors and and the technical assistance I think they managed to to stabilise him because there was a difficult moment, that’s what I heard.

“What I know is that he’s in the hospital, he’s in good hands, he’s in observation. I guess the club will tell you something. Tonight I guess to say more details is a personal thing.

“So what I can tell you right now, even though I didn’t have the opportunity to speak to Makhaula is that it’s okay.”
