Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos believes Orlando Pirates were the better side in the Soweto Derby despite Kaizer Chiefs winning 2-1.

Chiefs took the lead through Keagan Dolly in the 49th minute after an error from Thulani Hlatshwayo. Linda Mntambo equalised for Pirates in the 87th minute before another Pirates defender in the form of Olisa Ndah gave away a silly penalty, which Dolly converted to snatch the three points.

The Buccaneers came out on the losing side despite enjoying 65 percent of the possession and also having the territorial advantage.

Bucs co-coach Fadlu Davids said post-match that the better side lost on the day and Broos agreed with that verdict.

“I find Orlando Pirates were the better team and it was by a mistake of a player [Nigerian centre-back Olisa Ndah] that they lost the game,” the Belgian said in his characteristically straightforward manner.

Dolly has been rewarded for his sparkling form with a callup to the national team for the World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe at FNB Stadium on Thursday.

And the Bafana coach is delighted to see Dolly growing from strength to strength.

“I was very happy again for Dolly that he scored two times, okay one a penalty, but he scored twice,” Broos said.

“The confidence will be there and he can be an important player for us in the game against Zimbabwe.”
