Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune appears to have begun life after football as he has been unveiled as one of the new in-studio analysts for SABC Sport.

Khune, who is yet to announce his retirement from football, had his contract with Amakhosi not renewed for the 2024/25 season.

The former Bafana Bafana captain has already started his new gig.

He was part of the pundits for the Caf Champions League clash between Eswatini’s Mbabane Swallows and Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

Before handing a one-year deal for last season, Chiefs made it clear that it would be his final contract as part of their squad and Khune would be moved into a non-playing role within the club setup.

However, the player contradicted the club as he went on to tell the media he wasn’t retiring.

But taking up a contract with SABC Sport ahead of the season might be a hint one of the best goalkeepers to come out of South Africa has retired.

SABC also announced another former Amakhosi star Jabu Mahlangu (formerly known as Pule) will join their line-up.

SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli said this is to enhance the public broadcaster’s coverage by strengthening the analysis team.

“This move will ensure we provide insightful commentary and in-depth analysis for our viewers,” Chabeli said.

“The added new members to the team are Itumeleng Khune, Jabu Mahlangu as well as Coach Thabo Senong who will be joining our resident analysts Doctor Khumalo, Simphiwe Dludlu and Hlompho Kekana in the studio.”

This is a big comeback for Mahlangu, a nifty winger during his heydays, since parting ways with pay-TV SuperSport in 2022.
