According to KickOff.com, Belgium side Anderlecht, who are coached by former Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany, have reportedly offered R20 million to sign the 24-year-old Mokoena.

Reports doing the rounds suggest that Sundowns have now upped the ante with a R25 million counter-offer.

Cash-strapped SuperSport will probably chose the larger offer but it will be Mokoena, who needs to agree any deal and put pen to paper.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Valery Nahayo, who also played in Belgium for KAA Gent, tells KickOff.com an overseas move is what he would advise Mokoena to take given the choice.

“Belgium is the best league from which the top leagues here in Europe look for players coming in on the cheap,” Valery Nahayo tells KickOff.com, from his home in Belgium.

“The situation at Anderlecht has improved since Vincent Kompany came because they have now moved up the standings from lower positions, so they are more competitive.

“They will definitely improve his earnings from what he is getting at SuperSport United even though the tax here in Belgium is around 50%. This is a move that will benefit the player if he has bigger ambitions than only being the best in South Africa.

“This will be a good move for him for the sake of growth because he will face different challenges and get to play in Europe. Considering that you say he is turning 25 this is the last chance for him to move into a club in Europe from where he will move on to bigger things. Anderlecht uses more youth players because this is a league from which players are bought.

“Anderlecht doesn’t have the biggest of budgets but R20 million is not huge for them because they stand to make more out of the player if he succeeds. R20 million is like about 1 million which is nothing for Anderlecht who will argue that this is a player who is not familiar with Europe,” says Nahayo.
