Mokwena and Wydad had already agreed to go their separate ways at the end of the season.

However, the ongoing poor performance compelled the club to allow the coach to leave immediately.

The Red Castle have gone for seven matches without a win in all competitions. Wydad played six consecutive draws in the Botola Pro1, where they are placed third with 45 points from 27 matches.

They are six points behind the second-placed AS FAR, while log leaders RSB Berkane have collected 60 points in 26 matches.

Mokwena and his team were also eliminated in the round of 16 of the Moroccan Throne Cup by MA Tétouan, who are fighting relegation in the league.

Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against OC Safi appeared to be the final straw as both parties decided to end their strained relationship.

Mokwena has been heavily linked to Orlando Pirates, who are searching for coach Jose Riveiro’s replacement ahead of the next season.
