Al Ahly will play in Group A against Sundowns and Sudanese sides El Hilal and Al Merrikh.

The Egyptian giants are the reigning titleholders and beat the Brazilians in last season’s competition.

Speaking after the draw, the former Downs boss Mosimane said on KickOff that he welcomes facing his old team but is wary of their Sudanese opponents.

He explained: “I told you I know which I like. At least I have the chance to go home. It’s okay, anything is okay for Al Ahly.

“When I was with Sundowns before, we always had Wydad [Casablanca] all the time. We played Wydad eight times in a row. So, it’s interesting, let’s play Mamelodi Sundowns. Obviously, they want to beat us, but we beat them the last two times so it’s okay.”

Mosimane added: “[The group is a] very difficult one. I think what will help is that the local teams [from Sudan] will cancel each other because there is going to be a local derby.

“But, the interesting part is that the two top teams [Al Ahly and Sundowns] went to Sudan last year and did not win. It shows how difficult that group is going to be.”
