South African football lovers have hailed Royal AM after the impressive start to their maiden DStv Premiership campaign. The controversial KZN side have been trending for all the right reasons and proving they are not a charity organisation that donates points.

Even before their big announcement made prior to purchasing a PSL status, Royal AM were already considered quite controversial. Andile Mpisane and his tycoon mother Shauwn Mkhize have done some extraordinary things such as giving players fake trophies and medals after their last GladAfrica Championship match.

The mutiny continued when they failed to honour their play-off games. The club’s owners were once again in the limelight after their match against Maritzburg United, when they stormed onto the field with a bag, which seemed loaded with R200 notes.

Despite all the off-the-field incidents, Royal AM have brought something different to South African football. Their eccentric behaviour and flamboyancy in the stands at games has got tongues wagging in the local football scene.

It seems like the club have won over a lot of football supporters and if they can maintain consistency on the field or win silverware, a lot of fans would officially cross over.
