Orlando Pirates have confirmed the appointment of Fadlu Davids as an assistant coach to Milutin Sredojevic and his number two Rulani Mokwena.

It appears Davids will fill the gap left by former assistant Benson Mhlongo, who left to join TS Sporting in the National First Division last year (though he has since parted ways with the side).

The former Maritzburg United coach, who was sacked from the Team of Choice in December following a run of poor form, has been welcomed by club boss Dr Irvin Khoza.

He told Bucs’ official website: “I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Davids to Orlando Pirates.

“What was gratifying when I introduced the coach to the technical team there was an instant cordiality and rapport between them.

“It is also quite exciting to have two emerging talents in Rhulani and Fadlu complementing each other.”

The club added: “After going five months without filling the vacancy left by Benson Mhlongo the club is pleased to have a coach of Davids’ caliber joining the organisation as assistant coach.”

The 37-year-old guided Maritzburg to their highest ever league position last season in the Premiership. In addition, he almost secured their first ever silverware though United lost in the Nedbank Cup final to Free State Stars.
