Referee decides Bafana’s fate and ends Qatar 2022 dream

Ghana defeated Bafana 1-0 in the Cape Coast in controversial circumstances after Rushine De Reuck was adjudged to have fouled Jordan Ayew in the box. Clearly from a Bafana perspective, it was a soft penalty, and you would be justified to feel so as the referee made many dubious calls prior to the incident.

The Ghana match was more than just an ordinary fixture. This win for Ghana has taken the South African national team many steps backwards as they’ve now missed out World Cup qualification after missing out on a spot at AFCON. Compared to AFCON qualifiers, Bafana missed out this time on goals for after both teams finished tied on points and on goal difference. Goals for was the next criteria to be used to determine who should progress. As tight as it is, South Africa should feel disappointed for missing out.

Take a look at the penalty incident and some of the reaction below:

Sundowns Ladies fly SA flag high

Championship-winning mentality. Professionalism. Positive attitude. Quality players. These are some of the qualities attributed to Sundowns Ladies, a club representing not only the country but the entire COSAFA region.

Sundowns Ladies reached the semi-final of the CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt, without conceding a single goal. Goalkeeper, Asa Rabaloa, was instrumental in marshalling her defence and worked well with experienced captain Zanele Nhlapho and Banyana internationals, Bambanani Mbane and vice-captain Karabo Makhurubetsi in the first two games.

Experienced goalkeeper, Andile Dlamini, who has been sidelined for 5 months returned to the team for the first time in the final group stages match versus ASFAR of Morocco. The Moroccans were looking for a win to progress with Sundowns Ladies to the semis as runner-up. The quality of the Sundowns team saw them progress in style without really being troubled by the Moroccans.

SASOL KZN Provincial Final

The final was contested by two good football sides and proved to be a wonderful spectacle as well as a good advertisement for the women’s game in KZN.

Lindelani Ladies vs Sunflower FC returned for the second leg at John Dory grounds for the second leg. The first leg of this final ended in a 12-goal thriller as both sides refused to be defeated when it ended 6-6. The ultimate prize is to participate in the national championship with the hope of emulating Sundowns Ladies and JVW as national champions. Also, there is also an opportunity to join Hollywoodbets Super League in the National Women’s League and host the best women’s teams in the country.

The second leg ended in yet another stalemate, 1-1, which meant Lindelani Ladies were declared provincial winners on away goals rule.
