The South African PSL returns to our screens this weekend with some mouth-watering matchups lined up. Kaizer Chiefs will host Bidvest Wits in a crucial contest that will have telling implications in the race for the league title. Mamelodi Sundowns will do battle with Orlando Pirates at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium while Mpumalanga Black Aces will welcome Ajax Cape Town to the Mbombela Stadium.

There are other cracking fixtures to enjoy and lots of money to be made. Let’s get to it.

FRIDAY 18 DECEMBER
Chippa United 17/10
Draw 2/1
Bloem Celtic 16/10
Chippa United play host to Bloemfontein Celtic on Friday night at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. Dan Malesela will step in as head coach in the interim, assisted by Mbuyiselo Sambu following the suspension of head coach Roger Sikhakhane. The Chilli Boys have suffered consecutive defeats against Mamelodi Sundowns and Jomo Cosmos. Malesela will be hoping to inspire his team to victory against Bloemfontein Celtic, who are winless in their last five matches. Coach Serame Letsoaka will take charge of his first game following the resignation of Clinton Larsen. Letsoaka will be looking to improve his team’s recent results and this could be a good time to start. Siwelele have won their last four encounters with Chippa United. Bloemfontein Celtic are tipped on the Win/Draw Double at 4/10.

SATURDAY 19 DECEMBER
Free State Stars 5/4
Draw 22/10
Jomo Cosmos 21/10
Ea Lla Koto tackle strugglers Jomo Cosmos at Goble Park on Saturday, giving them the perfect opportunity to move up the table. Free State Stars were held to a 1-1 draw at home to The University of Pretoria in the only Absa Premiership clash last weekend. Coach Ernst Middendorp will be hoping for a positive response and will rely on Andrea Fileccia to score the goals that win the match. The Belgian tops the League’s scoring charts with six goals, along with Mpumalanga Black Aces striker Collins Mbesuma. Ea Lla Koto are 10th on the table with 12 points from 10 matches – two points ahead of Cosmos, who have played a game more. Jomo Sono’s side are yet to win a match on the road this season with four straight losses, three of them in the league. The home win is tipped at 5/4.

Golden Arrows 11/10
Draw 2/1
Polokwane City 5/2
Clinton Larsen will begin his stint with Golden Arrows on Saturday with a tricky fixture against Polokwane City. The Backheel Boys come into the match after back-to-back losses against Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits. Polokwane City on the other hand, come into this match after two wins on the bounce, beating Maritzburg United and Platinum Stars. Their last away victory over bottom-placed Maritzburg was their first win on the road in 15 games. Coach Julio Leal will be hoping to come away with a positive result against the Backheel Boys, but their head-to-head record does not bode well for their chances. Golden Arrows have won the last four meetings against Polokwane City and are tipped to build on that.

Kaizer Chiefs 16/10
Draw 19/10
Bidvest Wits 18/10
PSL champions Kaizer Chiefs will lock horns with log leaders Bidvest Wits at the FNB Stadium in what is a crucial contest. Amakhosi are 4th on the table with 18 points from 11 games – eight points behind Gavin Hunt’s side. Chiefs have won three of their five home matches with one defeat against rivals Orlando Pirates. Their last league match ended in a 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Maritzburg United. Coach Steve Komphela will be desperate to take maximum points off Bidvest Wits in a quest to reclaim their title. The Students are unbeaten in nine league matches with seven wins including three on the spin. Their only loss of the season was a 4-2 defeat away to Mamelodi Sundowns. Wits have won three of their last four away games since, scoring six goals and keeping four clean sheets. The Clever Boys won the reverse fixture 2-1 last season and I’m tipping them to repeat that feat.

Black Aces 17/20
Draw 9/4
Ajax Cape Town 33/10
Mpumalanga Black Aces will welcome Ajax Cape Town to the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday night. Muhsin Ertugral’s side come into the match with back-to-back wins against Jomo Cosmos and Bloem Celtic. Amazayoni are unbeaten at home with three wins from five matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding five times. Ajax Cape Town are winless in their last six matches with four defeats including consecutive losses against Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United. The Urban Warriors have lost both of their away matches against Bidvest Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns. Amazayoni won the corresponding fixture 1-0 last season and I’m tipping them to oust their opponents.

SUNDAY 20 DECEMBER
Mamelodi Sundowns 1/1
Draw 21/10
Orlando Pirates 28/10
*A Full preview of the game will be made available in the coming days.

Platinum Stars 5/10
Draw 26/10Maritzburg United 7/1
Platinum Stars will play relegation-threatened Maritzburg United on Sunday. Dikwena come into the match after consecutive defeats to Bidvest Wits and Polokwane City respectively. Stars will be hopeful of returning to winning ways as The Team of Choice have been dreadful on the road this season. Dikwena have won two of their four matches at home with one defeat against log-leaders Wits. Platinum Stars are fifth on the table with 18 points – tied with Kaizer Chiefs – while Maritzburg are bottom of the log with just one win from 11 games. Stars have won four of their six encounters against Maritzburg United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium with just one defeat. The home win looks a solid bet.

University of Pretoria 11/4
Draw 2/1
SuperSport United 21/20
SuperSport United will travel to Tuks Stadium on Sunday to take on The University of Pretoria. Matsatsantsa are unbeaten in their last four matches with two victories coming against Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town respectively. Both those victories were away from home and coach Gordon Igesund will be confident of leaving the Tuks Stadium with maximum points. AmaTuks are without a win in their last eight games with five defeats. The University of Pretoria salvaged a point against Free State Stars in a 1-1 draw last weekend and will be hoping for a positive result. However, they have lost their last four home games in a row. AmaTuks have also never beaten SuperSport United in eight attempts with Matsatsantsa victorious on five occasions. The away win is a banker bet at 21/20.
