While the Soweto Derby will take centre stage this weekend, there are several other mouth-watering fixtures to keep us entertained. The Bloem Celtic and Bidvest Wits game is sure to be a cracker while the SuperSport v Free State Stars fixture should also prove entertaining.

After my poor midweek results, I will be looking to redeem myself by finding a few winners for you.

Friday 30 October

Chippa United  13/10
Draw  43/20
Black Aces  2/1
The weekend’s action kicks off with an encounter between tenth placed Chippa United and Mpumalanga Black Aces. Chippa had their previously unblemished home record spoiled by SuperSport United last Tuesday. The 2-0 defeat has seen the Eastern Cape-based club slip down to tenth place on the log and they will want to ensure the slide does not continue by beating Black Aces this weekend. Aces went down to Kaizer Chiefs in their midweek fixture by a solitary goal. This was the second time the Glamour Boys inflicted defeat upon the Mpumalanga-based side in the space of five days. While their recent form isn’t great, they have managed to get two victories out of their five away games thus far and will been keen to add another win to that tally. I think Aces will get the better of Chippa this Saturday. They are currently available at a kind price of 2/1.

Mamelodi Sundowns  7/20
Draw  36/10
Maritzburg United  15/2
After defeating Free State Star’s by six goals to one in a Telkom Knockout fixture last weekend, I was confident that Downs had hit a rich vein of goal scoring form. How wrong I was. They followed that high scoring game up with a 0-0 at home to Polokwane City. The result meant Downs missed out on a chance to go top of the table. They may have another chance to ascend to the top of the log with struggling Maritzburg United coming to town on Saturday. The KZN club has a woeful away record. They have lost all three of their away fixtures and have conceded nine goals. They have also only managed to find the back of the net twice on their travels. Back the Matchbet + Both Teams to Score- No-. Downs should canter to a win here and with Maritzburg struggling to find goals on the road I can see Mamelodi’s finest keeping a clean sheet as well.

Jomo Cosmos  13/10
Draw  21/10
Polokwane City 21/10
While it may be early doors in the season, Cosmos already look like they may be a relegation candidate.  Ezenkosi lie in fifteenth place on the league table and are yet to win a game this season.  Their 0-0 draw with Chiefs last time out will have given the side a boost, but they’ll have to start winning matches if they want to avoid a swift return to the NFD.  Their opponents for Saturdays clash are also struggling for form at present. They have managed some impressive draws against some of the big guns this season but like their opponents for Saturdays match, City have struggled to win games, in fact, they haven’t won since the opening round of the league. Cosmos losing streak has to end sometime and I feel that maybe this weekend. Back them at 13/10 for a win.

Bidvest Wits  9/10
Draw  9/4
Bloemfontein Celtic  32/10
Table-toppers Wits play host to sixth-placed Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday evening. The Clever Boys have managed to accumulate 13 points from their last five games.  Their winning form hasn’t shown any signs of abating just yet, as they beat Orlando Pirates at the Orlando stadium on Wednesday evening. Their opponents for Saturdays clash lost by a goal to nil to Sundowns, last time out. Despite the loss, Celtic still only sit two points off Wits on the log. They have a decent away record, winning two of their four games on the road. However, Wits are yet to lose a game at home this season and with odds of 9/10 for a win, I’ll be backing Wits this weekend.

Sunday 1 November

Free State Stars  1/1
Draw  22/10
SuperSport United  28/10
Free State Stars will host SuperSport United in the first of two fixtures to be played on Sunday. The hosts sit in ninth position on the table with three wins from their seven games played thus far. Their opponents managed to get a 2-0 win at Polokwane City in their midweek fixture. The result has seen them move up to eleventh spot on the log.  Both sides have identical goals for and against records as well as similar overall results records. Their defences have been quite leaky, having conceded 11 goals a piece. With this in mind, I will be backing the Total Goals to be over 2.5 at 9/10.

University of Pretoria  17/10
Draw 23/10
Platinum Stars  29/20
Amatuks have failed to win a league game since their 3-0 victory over Polokwane City in August. While they have been solid at the back- drawing with both Ajax and Chiefs- they haven’t really offered any threat going forward. They have only scored four goals in their seven league games thus far. Three of these four goals have come at home however so I don’t feel that this game will end in a goalless draw. Stars have been able to find the back of the net on a regular basis this season scoring 13 goals in their seven league games. Their defence has also been relatively solid, only conceding seven goals in the seven fixtures. I fancy Stars to get the victory away from home, and a 29/20 for a win, they are definitely worth backing.
