According to Soccer Laduma, assistants, Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard will be placed in temporary charge for the remainder of the season.

Baxter signed a three-year deal in July but leaves after overseeing six defeats in their 23 DStv Premiership matches played – a run which has left them 18 points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Kaizer Chiefs hierarchy had ignored increasingly vociferous calls to relieve Baxter of his duties in the wake of a humiliating 4-1 loss to new boys Royal AM and a 1-0 Nedbank Cup defeat to TS Galaxy at the beginning of the year.

Baxter’s position was discussed by the AmaKhosi officials this week following the embarrassing run at the FNB Stadium where the club has failed to score in each of their last four fixtures.

Losing to a young SuperSport United team was the final nail on the coffin and it left fans chanting Baxter must go.
