Cape Town City’s poor run of form continued as they went down 2-0 to an inconsistent Royal AM in a DStv Premiership clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday evening.

Sedwyn George opened the scoring on 35 minutes and Sabelo Sithole made sure of the three points with goal on 58 minutes.

City are now without a win in four, to leave the club in fifth place with 31 points from 20 games, while a victory would have lifted the club back into second place on the league standings.

Royal AM ended the day in 10th place with 25 points from 19 games, just a point from the top-eight places.

It was the hosts who started well with Sabelo Sithole forcing a fine save from City stopper Darren Keet.

The goalkeeper was kept busy but rarely threatened until he denied Sithole again following a neat passage of play from the hosts.

But Keet could do nothing to stop George from powering a header over the goalline as the player latched onto a good Kabelo Mahlasela cross.

George may have had a second after the break but this time he squandered the opportunity, to give the away side some hope of finding an equaliser.

But ultimately it was Royal AM who found another goal as Sithole picked up a good pass from George to slot home.

Nduduzo Sibiya scored with just five minutes to play to hand Golden Arrows a rare three points away to Polokwane City.

Arrows were on a nine-match losing streak, with their last victory coming against Kaizer Chiefs back in October last year.

But the appointment of former boss Steve Komphela clearly had the desired effect as his team ground out for the win.

Arrows started brightly at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium with Wisdom Libamba in with an early chance that was kept out by Polokwane stopper Manuel Sapunga.

Douglas Mapfumo may have done better with his effort at the other end but he flashed his shot across the face of the goal.

Oswin Appollis came close with a dangerous free-kick, the other side of the half-time break, that Sifiso Mlungwana did well to reach.

The Arrows keeper was equal to another Appollis effort as both teams continued to search for a breakthrough.

The visitors eventually broke the deadlock with just five minutes of the match remaining when Sibiya smashed home his shot following a quick break forward.

The result saw Arrows move to eighth place on the DStv Premiership standings with 26 points from 20 games and City in 12th place with 24 points from 19 games.
