Sundowns showed their superiority in the first half, cruised into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Malibongwe Khoza and a brace by forward Tashreeq Matthews.

The lower division side however hit back and showed plenty of fight after the halftime break, pulling goal back through Mojalefa Mokhatla in the 54th minute.

Boeletsang Rankali then set the cat amongst the pigeons when he made it 3-2 just after the hour mark to give Golden Stars genuine hope of pulling off a massive upset.

Sundowns’ nerves were somewhat settled when Arthur Sales netted the fourth goal with 20 minutes of the contest remaining.

Masandawana were reduced to 10 men in the 76th minute when Bathusi Aubaas was shown a red card for an off-the-ball incident, but it did not matter much as Kobamelo Kodisang completed the scoring in stoppage time.
