Riveiro, who joined the Buccaneers in 2022, has quickly established a strong track record.

He led Pirates to back-to-back MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles in his first two seasons.

The Spanish tactician has also started the new campaign by defending the MTN8 trophy, winning it in three consecutive times.

This recent victory over the Natal Rich Boyz also marked his 100th game in charge at the Sea Robbers, during which he achieved his 61st win, a remarkable feat that puts him ahead of former Pirates coach Ruud Krol, who won 60 games in 119 matches.

This seventh consecutive win in the Betway Premiership pushed Pirates to the top of the standings with 21 points, underscoring Riveiro’s success and growing reputation in South African football.

“Jose (Riveiro) is one of the few foreign coaches that has come to (South Africa) and added value to the league,” Truter said.

“Hats off to him as well, we have a good relationship.

“He has brought something different to Pirates being winning some cups (MTN8 and Nedbank Cup) in this as well.

“And now is top of the table, going for the league. So, there’s some quality there and definitely adds to the product.

“As well as bringing some competition to the league.”
