Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has been given an “open budget” to bring in a lethal striker in the next transfer window in January.
This was revealed by the Belgian-Tunisian coach after the 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in a Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Nabi’s men might have been at the receiving end of poor officiating, but Amakhosi created enough good chances to win the match.
The Glamour boys were let down by their below-par finishing.
Their goal came from forward Ranga Chivaviro, who could have finished the match with a brace at least.
Nabi believes they could have done well upfront to avoid the defeat.
“I think my striker (Chivaviro) scored today, and in the last game (against AmaZulu) but okay, I want a level to be higher. I agree with that,” Nabi said.
The coach has spoken about the difficulties of finding the right striker.
The coach was believed to be interested in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) forward Fiston Mayele who is in the books of the Egyptian side Pyramids.
Nabi coached Mayele during his successful tenure with Young Africans of Tanzania where they won a historic double treble.
Chiefs also missed out on Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo, who joined Algerian side CR Belouizdad.
“But you know the market in Africa is very (small), you have maybe three, four or five players but all the big clubs in Africa are in a war to get them,” Nabi said.
“You have clubs like Esperance, and Zamalek but the market in Africa is not very positive at this moment.
“I think in October we are not playing a game. So, we have November and December, and then the transfer window opens on 1 January.
“I have three months to scout for the quality (striker) I need,” he said.
“Thanks to the owners and the committee because they have given me an open budget. But I don’t want to waste the money.”
The coach has also promised to help Chivaviro and other players in his squad grow.
Nabi is already pointing to improvements from Chivaviro after the forward also scored against AmaZulu FC.
“Ranga has scored two goals in two games, I don’t know how much he scored last season but step by step will progress,” Nabi said.
