Sundowns and the Glamour Boys will renew their rivalry at the FNB Stadium on Thursday evening, kick-off is scheduled for 19:30.

Rulani Mokwena’s high-flying Brazilians currently sit on 59 points, while second-placed Stellenbosch are on 46.

With Stellies left with five games on their league calendar, Steve Barker’s side can only accumulate a total point tally of 61 if they win all of their remaining fixtures.

However, Stellies are in action Wednesday evening against Steve Komphela’s Golden Arrows. If Abafana Bes’thende get the better of Barker’s side, that would effectively crown Sundowns with a seventh successive league title.

Barker’s outfit are on a 24-match unbeaten run across all competitions, with their last defeat being in September last year against Masandawana in the Premiership.

Sundowns will eventually be crowned champions, as a win at Amakhosi will see Mokwena lift yet another league title as they would move to 62 points, out of reach from anyone.

The bigger picture for the Tshwane giants is to attempt to go the entire season unbeaten.

A number of African clubs have achieved this feat as Egyptian giants Al Ahly have gone invincible in back-to-back seasons between 2004 and 2006, while Tunisian giants Esperance enjoyed a 93-game unbeaten run from 1997 to 2002.

However, Chiefs mentor, Cavin Johnson says he has not thought about the possibility of forming a guard of honour for Downs with seven games to play.

“There’s always those permutations in the back of people’s minds. I did not think of that permutation but if there is that type of permutation in the air, we will see what we do by the time we get to the game,” Johnson told members of the media.

“My focus is entirely on my team and who I play next and how it affects them, it does not bother me at this stage, only because we need to end the league on a good run,” Johnson added.
