Swallows escaped relegation by the slightest of margins after coming through the promotion/relegation playoffs top of the group ahead of Cape Town All Stars and the University of Pretoria.

Kerr has been around the block in the DStv Premiership, having also overseen Black Leopards, Baroka FC and Marumo Gallants in his time in South Africa.

Under Kerr, Swallows actually performed worse in the season run-in but has been assured by chairman David Thidiela that his job is safe for next season despite Gavin Hunt, Ernst Middendorp and Cavin Johnson being linked with his job.

“The Chairman spoke to me last week and said ‘look, forget about all the rumours about Gavin Hunt, Ernst Middendorp and Cavin Johnson (coming to Swallows). You are going to be the coach here next season’,” he said.

“I love it at Swallows. I mean it’s a good set-up. He’s got ambitions, he has dreams but those ambitions and dreams we all have to be honest and not make the mistakes that we have been making these past six months when I joined the club.

“Let’s go forward and learn from our mistakes. Every football club has its flaws, every football club does things that you are not supposed to do. But that’s going to stay in-house; it’s not something for the public,” continued Kerr.

“But we all make mistakes when it comes to team selections, substitutions, we get them right sometimes get them wrong. Picking the winning team so we learn from it and we grow from it.”
