The final Carling All-Star team that will take on Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6 January 2024 has been revealed, with Itumeleng Khune set to feature in the line-up.

However, Kaizer Chiefs have since published a statement saying Kaiser Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is not eligible and will not be available to participate in next month’s match between the Carling All-Stars and the winners of the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup, Stellenbosch FC.

“Despite being voted into the All-Stars line-up via a public poll, Khune is currently serving a suspension from all football-related activities at Kaizer Chiefs, and is therefore ineligible for selection.”

“The player, as well as the PSL, have been informed of his unavailability and an announcement from the League and sponsors, Carling, regarding the make-up of the All-Star team will be made in due course.” read the statement.

Khune was going to be partnering up with Masibonge Ngidi, Olisa Ndah, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Jabulani Mokone, Mfundo Vilakazi, Edson Castillo, Siphamandla Zikhali, Kagiso Mnguni, Kermit Erasmus and Ashley Du Preez for the starting XI.

Meanwhile the rest of the squad includes Zoey Monyepao, who had replaced Khune according to votes, Sipho Chaine, France Madiba, Njabulo Ngcobo, Paseka Mako, Reeve Frosler, Phillip Ndlondlo, Thulani Mabaso, Thembinkosi Lorch, Mduduzi Shabalala, Victor Letsoalo and Vicky Mkhawana.

The Carling All-Star team will be led by Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro after he received the most votes from the fans.
