Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabang Monare was caught unaware when he was released by Bucs on Monday.
The Buccaneers confirmed via an announcement that several players including Monare were being released by the club, the other players are: Wayne Sandilands, Justice Chabalala, Kwanda Mngonyama, Elson Sithole, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Abel Mabaso.
The 32-year-old, who made made 24 appearances for Pirates last season, tells KickOff.com that he had no idea he was being released by the club.
“I was also surprised by the reports,” Monare tells KickOff.com.
“No one at Pirates has told me anything about that, what I know is myself and Pirates will meet soon.
“What I know is we are still negotiating. It doesn’t make any sense after having such a good season.”
When KickOff.com contacted the players agent Mirko Agnelli he would not be drawn in to commenting on the issue.
