Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has responded to former club captain and shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune, who recently claimed that Rowen Williams heeded his advice, while Bvuma did not.

In an interview with iDiski Times, Khune explained that Mamelodi Sundowns’ success, both at the club level and within the national team, was partly due to Williams taking his advice to heart.

Khune suggested that Bvuma, who has struggled to earn a spot in the national team, failed to take his guidance seriously because they were teammates at Chiefs.

“I was grooming Ronwen, when he came to Bafana, I told him we are not here to make friends. We are here to compete,” Khune told iDiski Times.

“You make me better, I make you better, we make the national team better. So, he took those words, and I fail to understand why Bruce Bvuma didn’t listen to that advice.

“Because now, the way he’s struggling, he should have taken my advice when I gave it to him.

“He could be number one still, he could be one of the best candidates in the team and the national team.

“But now he’s also inconsistent because he thought I play with Itu in the same team so I can’t take his advice, but someone who came from outside appreciated my words.

“Now he has taken football by storm. He’s been to the Fifa Ballon d’Or awards, and I communicate with him almost every day.”

In response to Khune’s comments, Bvuma acknowledged the contributions the former Chiefs goalkeeper has made to both the club and South African football.

The 29-year-old highlighted that he is currently focused on his role at Naturena and that he frequently communicates with Khune.

“Listen, Itu is a club legend, what he has done for the team, I don’t think anyone in our generation will ever do it,” Bvuma said to the media at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena on Thursday.

“What he has done for the country is very big. I respect him and listen; I do talk to him.

“I do talk to Itu, and whatever that happened, like it happened and whatever that he said he said.

“But my focus is the team my focus is me doing well for the team and also making sure that I leave to my full potential.”
