NEWS: Orlando Pirates set to face Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle as Soweto giants continue Spain pre-season tour

The Sea Robbers are preparing for the upcoming 2024/25 DStv Premiership campaign in Spain’s Marbella Football Centre.

In anticipation of their European voyage, Pirates confirmed three friendly matches against Plymouth from England, Sevilla FC from Spain and Qatari giants Al Sadd.

First up is the English Championship outfit coached by Manchester United legend Rooney at the Banús Football Field in Marbella at 19:00 (SA time).

Rooney was recently appointed as the manager of the Pilgrims and will be hoping to lead them to the promised land of the lucrative Premier League.

On the other hand, the Soweto giants hope to prepare well enough ahead of launching a significant assault on the DStv Premiership title, CAF Champions League and domestic trophies.

Last season, Jose Riveiro’s side defended their MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles, while missing out on the Carling Knockout.

Riveiro will get a chance to integrate his new blockbuster signings into the team before they get down to more serious business. The Buccaneers have signed Angolan winger Gilberto.

Pirates will then take on La Liga side and former European champions Sevilla on Monday at 21:00.
