By reaching the final, Amakhosi are also in line to qualify for next season’s Caf Confederation Cup, offering a potential return to continental competition.

Caf President Patrice Motsepe emphasised the importance of a successful Chiefs for the overall health of South African football.

He also praised the club’s leadership for their dedication and commitment, despite the team’s current struggles, they sit eighth in the Betway Premiership standings.

“South African football requires a successful Chiefs and I am proud of the work the Motaung family are doing,” said Motsepe in the Citizen.

“Dr Kaizer Motaung is in a class of his own. I have said in the past that the days of success for Kaizer Chiefs are coming and I think they will be even more successful in the future.”

Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates are both currently in the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

“I am proud of all the teams from all over the continent,” added Motsepe.

“It is so good to see two South African teams participating in the CAF (Champions League) semi-finals. Sustainable progress doesn’t happen overnight. It needs consistent investment and hard work.

“I wish the best Al Ahly, Pyramids, Pirates, who are my father’s club, and [CAF Confederation Cup semi-finalists] Stellenbosch. What’s the other team? And Sundowns!”
