In the 2022/23 season, the new Carling Knockout Cup will replace the Telkom Knockout competition, which last took place in 2019.

This was announced by Khoza via a statement, stating: “I’m highly elated and excited to answer the question, ‘What are we doing with the Telkom Cup?’ Today I am happy to announce a new sponsor and partner – a longstanding partner,” Khoza said, confirming that Carling Black Label were the new sponsor of the cup competition.

“There is a gap in our calendar. Remember, the Telkom used to be played between October and December so there was a gap in that space. We tried to find a balance, and find space to accommodate this partnership [around other calendar considerations].

“…The name of the competition will be the Carling Knockout Cup, but in the element of that sponsorship will be the Carling 11, which will be played not far from the date of October/November.

“We have discovered that in December time, people need more football, so we have decided that that element will be played on 16 December. We have agreed that there will be a bit of innovation that will go with it…”
