Zothwane takes the reins from interim coaches Ronie Gabriel and Sboniso Gumede at the KwaZulu-Natal-based club.

Zothwane’s exit from Magesi comes following their appointment of Owen da Gama. Da Gama had replaced head coacg Clinton Larsen, who left Magesi after a historic season.

Larsen, alongside Zothwane as his assistant, led Magesi to their first ever top-flight football trophy when they won the Carling Knockout Cup title, defeating league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in November 2024.

Initially, reports suggested that Larsen was in line to join Richards Bay as head coach, with Zothwane expected to serve as his assistant. However, the club ultimately opted to hand Zothwane the head coaching role.

Richards Bay are struggling in the Premiership, sitting in 14th place on the league standings with nine points from 14 matches. The Natal Rich Boys are just two points above Magesi FC, who are at the bottom of the table.

Zothwane’s immediate task will be to stabilise the team’s form and steer them away from the relegation zone. His appointment brings fresh hope to Richards Bay supporters as the team looks to improve its fortunes in the second half of the season.
