Bafana Bafana host the Lone Stars of Liberia at the Orlando Stadium on Friday afternoon, in what will be the first of two legs in their crucial 2024 AFCON Qualifier clash.

The odds couldn’t have favoured Broos more in this qualifying round. Bafana are in a three-team group after Zimbabwe were booted out by Fifa, making the task less arduous. What’s more, Bafana are facing a Liberian side who have forgotten how to win, having lost four of their past five games. There surely can be no excuses for failure.

Broos’ 25-man squad consists of eight Mamelodi Sundowns players and none from Kaizer Chiefs – a choice which has caused a stir of emotions amongst local football fans.  But can any of those Amakhosi players actually complain about their absence from the national set-up?

That said, we cannot overlook the potentially dangerous firepower the squad comprises, with the likes of Monnapule Saleng, Cassius Mailula, Percy Tau and Lyle Foster all expected to make appearances over the two-leg fixture.
