PREVIEW: Can Kaizer Chiefs qualify for the CAF Champions League?

Fans of the beautiful game will once again be treated to another round of DStv Premiership action with plenty still to fight for. The hunt for glory continues this Easter weekend. Kaizer Chiefs’ tie against SuperSport United will likely steal the focus this weekend, although there is plenty to feast upon with a KZN derby between AmaZulu and Maritzburg United, while Cape Town City and Royal AM meet in the Mother City.

Saturday 16 April

12/10 AmaZulu | Draw 21/10 | Maritzburg United 23/10 (15:00)

Moses Mabhida draws back its curtains as AmaZulu host Maritzburg United in another much-anticipated KZN derby this weekend. Bragging rights will be up for grabs once again, with Usuthu gaining confidence after returning to winning ways under coach Brandon Truter. United have won once on the road all season and are four points away from safety at the time of writing. Hebe, Usuthu! One for all multiples!

9/10 Sekhukhune United | 22/10 | TS Galaxy 33/10 (15:00)

Tough times ahead in Tembisa where Sekhukhune United seem to be struggling of late, going five games without a win in the DStv Premiership. TS Galaxy have also been in dismal form, not just of late, but all season, losing 13 of their 24 matches played. The Rockets now come into this tie failing to win in their last six encounters. Nothing spectacular expected here with both teams tipped to share the spoils.

13/10 Cape Town City FC | 2/1 | Royal AM 22/10 (17:00)

In terms of league form, Cape Town City and Royal AM have been the most consistent over the past few weeks and have really strengthened their position in the standings and have closed the gap somewhat on the positions they’re chasing.

City have won four successive matches in the league and are unbeaten in seven ties, while Royal AM are also without defeat in seven games, winning five times. In the Mother City, my money is on the hosts to put an end to Royal AM’s brilliant run.

13/10 Kaizer Chiefs | 2/1 | SuperSport United 22/10 (19:30)

Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host SuperSport United at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Chiefs were held to a disappointing goalless draw against TS Galaxy in their last encounter, although they’d still fancy their chances against a SuperSport United team who have not won in their last four encounters. Pressure is mounting on both coaches, but I foresee Stuart Baxter getting one over his former employers.

Sunday 17 April

11/10 Chippa United | 18/10 | Stellenbosch 32/10 (15:00)

Chippa United still have that unwanted record of not winning a single game on home soil, despite their upturn of form in recent weeks. The Chilli Boys are four points above the relegation zone at the time of writing, while Stellenbosch have regathered some of their early-season form, beating Golden Arrows in Durban last time out. Backing the visitors seem sensible here at a hefty price.

9/10 Marumo Gallants | 22/10 | Swallows 33/10 (15:00)

We wrap up the weekend’s action at the Peter Mokaba Stadium where Marumo Gallants host Swallows. Gallants have lost back-to-back encounters and seem to be a long way off the top eight as things stand.

Swallows occupy the relegation play-off spot at the time of writing and have lost two matches on the bounce going into midweek. This seems like a tough tie to call, so I’ll split them down the middle and take a draw.

TREBLE @ 10/1

AmaZulu win 12/10
Cape Town City Win 13/10
Kaizer Chiefs Win 13/10
