There’s an interesting double header tie to look forward to in midweek in the DStv Premiership. On Tuesday, Maritzburg United travel to Athlone Stadium to face Cape Town City. Elsewhere, Moses Mabhida Stadium draws back its curtains when Royal AM entertain Orlando Pirates in Durban.

Tuesday 16 August

Cape Town City 1/1 | Draw 43/20 | Maritzburg United 3/1 (19:30)

The first matchup of the week kicks off in the Western Cape where Cape Town City seek to get their first points on the board when they host Maritzburg United. City have played three games to date, losing them all, and sit bottom of the pile with seven goals conceded. Maritzburg United, on the other hand, are the lowest scorers in the division, finding the back of the net just once in their three encounters played – so something has to give at Athlone Stadium. With the crowd behind them and under the lights, my money is on Cape Town City to get their first win of the new campaign.

Wednesday 17 August

Royal AM 22/10 | Draw 2/1 | Orlando Pirates 27/20 (19:30)

Royal AM were humbled and brought back down to earth after suffering their first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 to Stellenbosch at the Danie Craven Stadium. Prior to that result, Royal AM had won their opening two encounters, beating Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United. Speaking of the Chilli Boys, Pirates come into this tie off the back of a demoralising loss against Chippa United last weekend, failing to score for the first time in a game this term. There seem to be more worrying signs for Pirates heading into this game with Jose Rivero’s team yet to really get going this season. With this in mind, my money is on Royal AM here.
