PREVIEW: There’s still much to fight for in the DStv Premiership

While Mamelodi Sundowns have long wrapped up the DStv Premiership title, there’s still much to fight for in the league with just two games to go for most teams.

Orlando Pirates will be occupied with the CAF Confederations Cup second leg clash with Al Ahly Tripoli where they lead by two goals to nil. Their game against Maritzburg United is set to be rescheduled for another day. Mcebo Mpungose previews the upcoming games this weekend.

14/10 TS Galaxy | Draw 37/20 | Marumo Gallants 22/10 (15:00)

Despite a good turn in form this year, TS Galaxy is still in a bit of danger in position 14 having failed to win their last game.

Just two points separate TS and Swallows who have tricky fixtures themselves. Home advantage should be key for TS here against a Gallants team that is winless in their last five games despite making it to the Nedbank Cup final. I’m backing a TS Galaxy win.

9/10 Cape Town City | Draw 21/10 | AmaZulu 33/10 (15:00)

AmaZulu will visit the Mother City on the back of five games unbeaten under the guidance of Brandon Truter. Cape Town City too, though, is one of the in-form sides in the Premiership with no loss in their last five either albeit only winning twice. Due to a great run of form in 2022, the Cityzens now occupy the second position and look like strong favorites to keep this position.

Cape Town City will hand Brandon Truter his first loss as AmaZulu coach. I’m backing a City win by less than 2.5 goals.

15/10 Swallows | Draw 37/20 | Chippa United 2/1 (15:00)

Rumors about players’ salaries being missed by Swallows management are swelling again. Their supporters will be hoping the unhappiness of players doesn’t make it to the pitch in their bid to survive relegation against Chippa United which hasn’t lost in their last five games. I’m going with a double chance here. Swallows win or draw.

5/2 Sekhukhune United | Draw 21/10 | Kaizer Chiefs 11/10 (15:00)

Having started the season strong and finished 2021 amongst the top 4, Sekhukhune is having a rather tame 2022 and has now slipped down to 10th position. The home side is winless in their last five games, only managing to pick up two points.

They come up against a rejuvenated Chiefs side who snapped a four-game losing streak with a win that was followed up by an impressive draw against Mamelodi Sundowns. Chiefs have two games to try to get into a CAF Competition but it’s not entirely in their hands anymore. I’m backing a half-time draw and Kaizer Chiefs victory at full-time.

11/20 Mamelodi Sundowns | Draw 28/10 | Stellenbosch FC 47/10 (15:00)

Sundowns will still be chasing the best points tally they can finish with this season when they host Stellenbosch who still have an outside chance of qualifying for the CAF Confederations Cup.

Stellies have had a really good season in the Premiership and will look to increase their stock by challenging Sundowns in this game to see how they fare against the league’s best team. I’m backing both teams to score here.

21/10 Baroka FC | Draw 2/1 | SuperSport 27/20 (15:00)

With two games to go, the highest points tally Baroka can get now is 28 points. That would be enough to see them stay in the Premiership if TS Galaxy loses their final two games. They come up against a SuperSport United side that is unbeaten in five games (four draws and one victory) so it won’t be an easy task. Home advantage should work in Baroka’s favor though and they should win this one by 1-0 (correct score).

17/10 Golden Arrows | Draw 2/1 | Royal AM 33/20 (15:00)

This should be an interesting watch for football lovers in SA. Royal AM will be looking to go back to winning ways having lost their last game to another KZN-based team, Maritzburg United. A win here will be important seeing as in the final two games, MaMkhize’s team will come up against Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Golden Arrows are still going through a bit of a transition having let go of Lehlohonolo Seema as the head coach. I’m backing a first-half draw and a full-time win for Royal AM.

TREBLE @ 9/1

Cape Town City Win 9/10

Kaizer Chiefs Win 11/10

Royal AM Win 33/20
